Shared 3-Day Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour

Your adventure begins with an early-morning pickup from your riad, hotel, or an arranged meeting point in Fes. After collecting the other travelers, the group leaves the city and travels south into the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the landscape gradually changes from fertile plains to forests, mountain towns, and wide valleys. The journey includes planned stops at the most interesting viewpoints and attractions along the route, giving everyone time to enjoy the scenery and take photographs.

Your first stop is Ifrane, a peaceful mountain town known for its clean streets, alpine-style buildings, and cool climate. Often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” Ifrane offers a very different atmosphere from Morocco’s historic imperial cities. You will have time for a short walk, photos, and a coffee if you wish.

You then continue to the cedar forest near Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques. You may see them moving between the trees or gathering near the roadside. After enjoying the fresh mountain air and taking photos, the journey continues across the Middle Atlas toward Midelt, where you will stop for lunch.

In the afternoon, you travel through mountain passes and the impressive Ziz Valley. From a panoramic viewpoint, you can admire the long green oasis, thousands of date palms, traditional villages, and rocky desert landscape. The contrast between the lush valley and the surrounding mountains is one of the most memorable views on the route.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise from the desert. You will switch to a camel trek at sunset, riding gently across the dunes and stopping for photos as the colors change over the Sahara. If you prefer not to ride a camel, we can arrange a 4×4 transfer to the camp instead.

In the evening, you arrive at your luxury ensuite Sahara camp. Your private tent includes comfortable bedding and a private bathroom. Before dinner, you can try sandboarding, climb a nearby dune, or simply enjoy the silence of the desert. After a traditional Moroccan dinner, the evening usually continues with Berber music around the fire and stargazing before you sleep beneath the peaceful Sahara sky.

Wake early to experience one of the tour’s most beautiful moments: sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. You can walk to the top of a nearby dune and watch the morning light spread across the sand. After breakfast at the camp, you say goodbye to your hosts and leave the Sahara by camel or 4×4.

The journey continues toward Rissani, a historic desert town that once served as an important stop for caravans traveling across the Sahara. Depending on the day and timing, you may visit its traditional market, where local people trade spices, dates, handmade goods, livestock, and everyday products. The market is especially lively on its main market days.

From Rissani, you travel through changing desert landscapes and small Berber towns before reaching Tinghir and the spectacular Todra Gorge. Here, towering limestone walls rise dramatically on both sides of a narrow riverbed. The group will have time to walk through the gorge, take photographs, and enjoy the cooler air beneath the canyon walls before continuing toward the Dades Valley.

After lunch, the tour continues toward the Dades Valley, known for its green farmland, traditional kasbahs, red cliffs, and remarkable rock formations. Along the way, you can stop at panoramic viewpoints and see the famous “Monkey Fingers” formations. You arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon, with time to relax and enjoy dinner while surrounded by the beautiful valley landscape.

After breakfast at your hotel, you begin the final day of your Fes to Marrakech desert tour. The drive follows the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing traditional earth-built villages, palm groves, and dramatic mountain landscapes.

You travel through the Rose Valley, famous for its fragrant roses and locally produced rosewater and cosmetics. During the flowering season, the valley becomes especially colorful, but its kasbahs, villages, and cultivated fields make it a beautiful stop throughout the year.

The journey continues through Skoura Oasis and toward Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the Sahara and Morocco’s cinema capital. Depending on your interests and the day’s timing, you may stop near Kasbah Taourirt or the film studios where many international productions have been filmed.

By late morning or around lunchtime, you reach Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have time to explore its narrow lanes, cross the river, and walk toward the upper granary for panoramic views. The ksar was once an important stop on the historic caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech and has appeared in many famous films and television productions. After lunch near Aït Ben Haddou, you continue into the High Atlas Mountains and cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The winding road offers wide views over mountain valleys, traditional villages, and colorful rock formations. The group will make planned stops for photographs, coffee, and short breaks along the way.

By early evening, you arrive in Marrakech.
